Faith

The Basics

God is real. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and totally in charge of the direction history is moving. He is Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He created everything and everyone and every person matters deeply to him. Everyone has sinned, so everyone needs Jesus, who died for our sins, rose again from the dead, and is coming back.Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone, and once you’re saved, you’re always saved.

Heaven and hell are real, as are angels and demons, including Satan. The Holy Spirit lives in every believer and empowers and gifts us to live and serve. The Bible, which is God’s Word, is both true and powerful. Baptism is when believers are immersed in water, not for salvation but to tell the world we follow Jesus. Communion is a memorial to Jesus’ death. Jesus started the church before His death, protects it through every age, and commissioned the church to tell the world about Him. And no matter what, there is always hope.

History

On April 30th, 1887 approximately 50 members of the Corning community gathered for the first official services of the First Baptist Church of Corning. Through the ups and downs of the more than 130 years since that date, FBC has faithfully served the Corning community and has consistently worked to spread the gospel and the love of Jesus throughout Corning, Arkansas, North America, and around the world. In 19-- members from Corning FBC helped plant a new church to reach people east of Corning. Second Baptist Church, as it was called, eventually moved into town and was renamed Calvary Baptist Church and is a thriving congregation still today. FBC has sent teams to Mexico, Kansas, South Dakota, Haiti and elsewhere serving and sharing. Our current pastor, Bart Baker came to Corning FBC in the summer of 2022 and we continue to look for and find more and new ways to reach people for the Kingdom!

Mission

Our mission is to lead people to KNOW Christ, to GROW in and be changed by Christ, and to GO on mission with Christ.  To accomplish this mission, we strive to provide environments that facilitate the bringing in, building up, and sending out of believers. These environments include engaging, Christ-centered worship, Biblical preaching and teaching, and relational discipleship.
